Saudi Speech Therapist Ashwaq Al-Qahtani: Embracing Syrian Children with Newfound Hearing and Joy
Saudi speech and language therapist Ashwaq Al-Qahtani, working with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, welcomed Syrian hearing-impaired children as angels before their cochlear implant operations.
She shared her feelings of motherhood and compassion, working 18-hour days with medical staff who restored the children's hearing with love and passion.
Audiologist Al-Qahtani described the emotions as indescribable during the first-time listening experience for 30 children who received cochlear implants.
The children reacted with crying, astonishment, and surprise upon hearing voices for the first time.
All implant surgeries were successful, and the children are expected to reach normal hearing levels with continued follow-up from the Audiology and Rehabilitation Department under KSrelief.
Al-Qahtani will continue communicating with speech-language pathologists to support the children's progress.
Saudi Arabia's humanitarian arm, KSrelief, has extended its volunteer medical projects to the Syria-Turkish border region.
The team has examined 638 individuals and performed 31 cochlear implantation surgeries, 10 nose, ear, and throat surgeries, and distributed 130 hearing aids.
These operations were the first of their kind within volunteering medical projects.
All surgeries and rehabilitation programs were successful.
Saudi Arabia's humanitarian role in the international community is highlighted in this text, with the establishment of KSrelief under the guidance of King Salman.
The organization operates based on sublime humanitarian principles, providing aid and relief to those in need around the world, contributing to a dignified life for individuals.
