Saudi Arabia, IMO Partner on Global Initiatives for Underwater Noise Reduction, Seafarer Training
Cooperation agreement aims to limit radiated underwater noise and address global maritime personnel shortage.
The Transport General Authority of Saudi Arabia has entered into a cooperation agreement with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to launch two initiatives focused on reducing underwater noise levels and improving seafarer training.
The GloNoise project seeks to minimize radiated underwater noise, which could harm marine ecosystems, while NextWave Seafarers aims to tackle the worldwide shortage of qualified maritime professionals by offering specialized training programs.The agreement was signed with the goal of enhancing environmental sustainability, human capital development, and Saudi Arabia's influence in the global maritime sector.
As part of this initiative, 20 trainees from developing countries will be provided with specialized training to prepare them for careers within the maritime industry.
The program also promotes gender equality by offering equal opportunities to both men and women.This deal is aligned with Saudi Arabia's National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to strengthen its position as a leading hub in shipping and logistics.
