NCM: Jazan set to experience tropical, rainy climate throughout the year
Jazan is set for a year-round tropical, rainy climate, reports Hussein Al-Qahtani of the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).
This conforms to early data from the Saudi Regional Climate Change Center (RCCC), reflecting Saudi Arabia's shifting climate.
The region frequently experiences rainstorms with strong winds, reduced visibility, and lightning, particularly in Abu Arish, Ahad Al-Masariha, Al-Tuwal, Samtah, Sabya, and Damad.
The weather in Jazan varies from moderate winters to hot, humid summers along the coast, with temperatures cooling towards the mountains, leading to more rainfall.
Temperature peaks during June to September, averaging between 25°C in January to 35°C in June, with extremes from 18°C to 41°C. Humidity ranges from 61% in July to 79% in December, hitting lows and highs of 27% and 99%, respectively.
Northwestern winds prevail from May to September, while the monsoon season in June and August brings sandstorms and dust, with wind speeds averaging around 26 km/h and often exceeding 30 km/h.
The majority of Jazan's annual rainfall occurs in the summer, particularly in mountainous areas, varying between 100 to 450 mm based on altitude.
