Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting US Representative Ilhan Omar
A man has pleaded guilty to assaulting US Representative Ilhan Omar during a town hall meeting in January, where she criticized President Donald Trump's immigration policies.
Anthony James Kazmierczak, 55, pleaded guilty to one count of Assaulting a United States Officer in US District Court.
He admitted to planning the assault and not agreeing with Representative Omar's political views.
During the town hall meeting in Minneapolis, Omar was criticizing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for its actions and the fatal shootings by federal agents.
Kazmierczak sprayed her with apple cider vinegar from a syringe, which landed on her clothing and skin.
The liquid contained acetic acid, but Omar was uninjured.
Trump has previously targeted Omar in public remarks and social media posts, taking aim at her Somali nationality.
Kazmierczak gestured and shouted at Omar before security guards subdued him and he was arrested.
The town hall meeting was temporarily disrupted, but Omar continued her remarks.
