Madinah Authority Restores Historic Holy Sites

Madinah Authority Restores Historic Holy Sites

Ongoing restoration projects in Madinah focus on preserving religious and historic sites, increasing visitor amenities.
Riyadh: The Madinah Region Development Authority has embarked on significant projects to preserve and restore important religious and historical sites.

These initiatives have attracted a growing number of visitors to the region.

Among the most notable is the ongoing restoration of the Battle of the Trench site, a location that holds deep significance for Muslims as it marks where followers of Prophet Muhammad dug a defensive trench in 627 C.E.

The redevelopment efforts include restoring several mosques and other significant sites within Madinah.

Notably, the Miqat of Dhu Al-Hulaifah is being redeveloped, which was the site where Prophet Muhammed entered the ritual state of Ihram before performing the Umrah pilgrimage.

The focus of this initiative includes expanding the mosque’s facilities and enhancing services.

Over the past year, several landmarks in Madinah have been upgraded with modern amenities and digital guide services.

Improvements to pedestrian facilities around the central area and near the Prophet's Mosque include electric vehicle access and a pedestrian path leading to Quba Mosque.

Additionally, landscaping and public amenities have been enhanced throughout the city.

The Rua Al-Madinah Project is a major development initiative featuring an extensive tunnel network and luxury hotels aimed at increasing Madinah's hospitality capacity to accommodate 30 million visitors by 2030.

Another new project, Al-Matal, includes integrated tourist and recreational facilities built into the mountainside of the Al-Jamawat neighborhood.

These schemes aim to enrich the visitor experience in Madinah, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's objectives.
