Iraq Unveils Ambitious $17 Billion Transportation Project to Become Regional Hub
Iraq has unveiled a $17 billion transportation project that aims to turn the country into a regional transportation hub by developing its road and rail infrastructure.
The "Route of Development" project spans 1,200 km from the northern border with Turkiye to the Gulf in the south and is expected to be completed in three to five years.
The project includes the construction of 15 train stations and increasing capacity at the Port of Al-Faw.
The project is seen as a way for Iraq to boost its economy and increase interdependence between neighboring countries.
However, some experts have expressed doubts about the plan's feasibility, as it may not attract enough cargo traffic to make it a viable transportation hub.
