British Teen Jay Slater's Death in Spain Ruled Accidental
Coroner concludes the 19-year-old fell to his death in a remote national park on Tenerife.
LONDON: The unexpected demise of British teenager Jay Slater, who was found deceased on the Spanish island of Tenerife last year, has been attributed to accidental causes following an inquest at Preston Coroner’s Court.
Slater, aged 19, vanished in June after a night of partying and attempting a trek back to his lodgings, ultimately succumbing to a fall within a challenging terrain area of the Canary Islands' national park.
Spanish authorities had previously noted that the injuries sustained by Slater aligned with an accidental fall.
At the conclusion of the coroner’s investigation, James Adeley determined that Slater's death was an accident, stemming from a 20-25 meter (66-82 feet) plummet resulting in skull fractures and brain trauma.
According to the findings, there was no involvement of any third parties in his untimely demise.
The circumstances surrounding Slater’s final moments underline the inherent risks associated with exploring remote areas that lack adequate safety measures.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for travelers venturing into similar environments, emphasizing the importance of thorough assessment and adherence to safety guidelines before embarking on such excursions.
