British Teen Jay Slater Died Accidentally in Spain, Coroner Concludes
The coroner concluded that the 19-year-old fell to his death while attempting a long walk on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
LONDON: British teenager Jay Slater, who was found dead on the Spanish island of Tenerife last year, died accidentally from a fall, a coroner concluded on Friday.
Slater, who was 19, went missing in June after partying with friends and attempting a long walk back to his accommodation before falling to his death in a remote national park on the Canary Islands archipelago.
His body was found the following month, with Spanish authorities stating that the injuries sustained by Slater were consistent with an accidental fall.
At an inquest held at Preston Coroner’s Court, coroner James Adeley concluded that Slater 'died an accidental death.' The coroner explained that while attempting to descend a ravine, Slater fell in an area of difficult terrain and loose rock, leading to skull fractures and brain trauma from which he would have died instantly.
No third-party involvement was established in the teenager’s death.
