A passenger train collided with a cargo train in central India on Tuesday, resulting in at least five fatalities and several injuries.

The accident occurred near Bilaspur, approximately 116 kilometers from Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh.

According to Sanjay Agarwal, a senior government official, the local passenger train hit the goods train from behind, causing it to topple over some of its coaches.

Rescue teams are currently searching through the wreckage to locate any remaining survivors.

The incident has been captured on camera by television channels, showing images of the collision at the accident site.

Mr. Agarwal further stated that efforts are being made to free passengers trapped inside the train using cutting equipment.

Train collisions are not an uncommon occurrence in India due to issues with aging infrastructure and human error within the extensive rail network.

The incident is currently under investigation, with authorities working diligently to determine the cause of the crash and any contributing factors.
